Though Picasso has many famous works, such as 'Guernica,' some of his earlier works are often neglected. Kanika wanted to celebrate some of the lesser known paintings by basing this portrait off of Madame Canals.
Girl with the Piercing Eyes
Kanika had never seen a painting that struck her quite like this one. The original portait by Johannes Vermeer captured the emotion of this woman in a painting that she had never seen before. With the goal or recreating this and elevating the work in her own style, Kanika decided to reimagine the portrait in her own eyes.
Girl Power
An original work by Kanika, the artist decided to highlight the power of Indian American women in the US through bright colors, and a very dominant yet confident woman. The piece is a culmination of the skills Kanika has honed through previous portraits, and represents her shift to more activist works.
